George N. De Filippo, a lifelong resident of Rye, passed away on May 5, 2015. A person who put his family and community before himself, George was born on December 6, 1930, the son of Gelsomino De Filippo and Elizabeth Melillo De Filippo.
After graduating Rye High School, Class of 1948, Mr. De Filippo went on to join the Navy faithfully serving his country during the Korean War. He returned home and began serving Rye as a member of the Rye Police Dept. His career spanned 37 years ending with his retirement on December 30, 1992. George was active in his community with membership in the Rye Marina Commission and Rye Recreation. George married the former Margaret Brent on July 17, 1988.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years Margaret, three children: a daughter Caryn of Harrison, NY and two sons, Thomas of Stanton, KY and James of Port Chester, NY; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey Garcia of Mamaroneck, NY, Michael De Filippo of Providence, RI, Amanda Chaney of Stanton, KY and Holly De Filippo of Stanton, KY; four great-grandchildren, Boone and Lilly Chaney and Ty and Alison De Filippo.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection on Saturday at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to
