Neil H. Swartz, 78, died in Ft. Wayne, Ind., Sept. 28, 2009, after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Burton and Elizabeth (Hart) Swartz. Neil was raised in suburbs near New York City. He attended Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, prior to entering military service. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, after which he returned to college and graduated from the University of Pittsburg, Kappa Sigma, Penn., 1957.
During his career, Neil was employed in sales, managerial and executive capacities with the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, Chicago; Red Owl Stores, Hopkins, Minn; Gamble-Skogmo, Inc., Minneapolis; St. Louis Park Medical Center (nka Park Nicollet Medical Center), St. Louis Park, Minn.; and Interstate Medical Center, Red Wing, Minn. Neil was predeceased by his parents and his sister Mrs. Joan W. Dickinson.
He is survived by his children, Glen Allen, Alexandria, Va.; Dr. Leslie Ann Swartz-Williams, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. Audrey Lee Swartz Britton, Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Andrew J. Williams, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and Jessica Swartz Britton, Minneapolis, and sister Mrs. Charlene Briand, Montauk, NY.
Inurnment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund. Arrangements with D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home.
