Dr. Robert L. Kugel, 85, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2016 at Milford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Port Chester, NY, on August 4, 1930 to the late Kenneth and Florence Mazzulli Kugel. Robert graduated from Port Chester High School Class of 1947 & Westchester Community College. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On the GI Bill he graduated Fordham University. He eventually earned his PhD from Penn State. Robert later enjoyed careers at American Cyanamid in Stamford followed by King Industries in Norwalk. While at King he was also a Professor of Chemistry at Fairfield University. After retirement he was a crossing guard at Cranbury Elementary School, as well as AARP Local Chapter President, Norwalk Election Judge, and he delivered Meals on Wheels. His interests included philately, bird watching, reading (particularly spy novels), many beloved family pets and traveling with his wife, especially trips to Bermuda and Alaskan cruises.
Robert is survived by his sons, Timothy Kugel and his wife Tracey of Stuart, FL and Christopher Kugel and his wife Lora of Milford, his brother Ken Kugel and his wife Kathy of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law Roberta Kugel of Port Chester, NY, and his two grandchildren, Alexa and Daniel. Many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents, Robert is predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Joan Kugel, and his brother Richard Kugel.
A funeral procession will leave the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, CT on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at 10:20AM and proceed to St. Jerome RC Church. 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Riverside Avenue, Norwalk. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday April 18, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00PM.
