Vincent Joseph King
Vincent Joseph King was born on December 11, 1931 in Rye, he was the son of Eileen Burke King and Walter King. His ancestors immigrated to America from Ireland. Vincent had four brothers,
Walter Jr.
, Martin,
Donald
, and Bruce.
In Rye his family lived at
138 Osborn Road
. Vincent graduated from Rye High School in 1950 where he played on the varsity football team.
After high school he joined the United States Marines and served in the Korean War with the
First Marine Division
. He took part in three major campaigns on the Korean front and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After serving in Korea he was
stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii
where he trained new air ground units.
After the war Vincent took up a career in telecommunications and worked for the New York telephone company, AT&T, Verizon, and The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
Vincent enjoyed spending his free time at the Edith Read Bird sanctuary every morning or walking the Playland Pier. Above all he loved his sons and the Marine Corps.
Vincent Joseph King, 91, passed away on May 31, 2023 at Greenwich Hospital. He was survived by his children, Jason King of Florida and Jonathan King of Connecticut.
There was a celebration of life for Vincent King at Kelly’s Sea Level in Rye on Thursday June 8th, 2023.
