Nicholas J. Calo was born in New York on March 21st, 1930. During his time in Rye, he lived on 82 Maple Avenue with his mother, Jennie, and his father, Jack, who got married in 1929, a year before Nicholas was born. Nicholas also had two younger brothers, Richard who was born in 1934 and Jack Jr. born in 1939. Nicholas, called Nick by most people, attended Rye High School and was a part of the Class of 1948. In High School, Nick loved to play the trumpet and was in band all 4 years. He also played basketball and baseball and joined the Glee Club his senior year. The people that knew him best said that he was very interested in being a sports reporter. Nicholas got married on September 23, 1951 at the Ressurection Church to Beverly Stark. Nicholas eventually enlisted in the United States Army serving his country proudly in the Korean War.
