Joseph W. Groglio, Sr.

Joseph W. Groglio, Sr. was born on April 29th, 1929 in Rye to Gerald and Mary (Grosso) Groglio. His siblings were brothers, Gerald, William, Nick, George and John; and sister, Angela. In Rye his family lived at 34 Elizabeth St. and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

He was a Rye High School graduate, class of 1947. During the Korean War, Joseph served in the U.S. Army.

Joseph served as a military policeman with the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953. He married Jeannette Rutland on Oct. 13, 1957, at St Gregory's Church in Harrison.

Joseph Groglio was an avid sportsman. He was a member of the Rye Golf Club and played for a number of years on the Rye Thunderbolts softball team with his father and brothers.

He was a member of the Double R Hunting Club for 25 years and bowled on his company team. Joseph was active in the Rye Little League and the Rye Babe Ruth League from 1969 to 1973, serving for the final three years as vice president of the Rye Babe Ruth League.

Joseph Groglio worked for 47 years at Arnold's Bakery in Greenwich, Conn., until his retirement in 1991. He was on the board of directors of the Credit Union at Arnolds Bakery.

Joseph W. Groglio, a lifelong Rye resident, died October 16, 1994 at United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester. He was 65.

At the time of his death, in addition to his wife, Joseph was survived by three sons, Joseph Jr. and Michael, both of Rye, and Robert of Westport, Conn.; a daughter Paula Groglio of Rye; five brothers, Gerald of New Mexico, Nicholas of Brewster, William, of Rye Brook, George of Rye and John of Greenwich, a sister Angela Anderson of Fairfield, Conn. and four grandchildren.
