John J. Groglio
John J. Groglio was born on January 31st,1931 in Rye to Gerald and Mary (Grosso) Groglio. His siblings were brothers,
Gerald, William, Nick, George and Joseph; and sister, Angela. In Rye his family lived at 34 Elizabeth St. and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. John was raised and educated in Rye and graduated from Rye High School. In February 1952 he enlisted and served during the Korean war.
During the Korean War, John served in the U.S. Army with the 28th Infantry Division. In the Korean War, the 28th was mobilized and deployed to Europe as a part of the NATO command defending Western Europe from the threat of Soviet attack and remained on federal service until 22 May 1954.
After the war John was a member of the American Legion Post 93 in Port Chester. He married Charlene Amundsen on April 24, 1955, in Greenwich, Connecticut. John and his brother George owned Twin Appliance Service in Rye. John was a great ball player, a terrific lefty pitcher and avid sports fan.
For many years he worked at the Midland Deli early in the morning, making bacon and egg sandwiches for his many friends. He would hold court at the deli and then go off to work at his full time job.
John J. Groglio of Greenwich, CT, passed away on July 15, 2006.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife the former Charlene Amundsen of Greenwich, a daughter Nancy Carino of Greenwich, two brothers, George of Rye and Nick of Brewster, one sister, Angela (Honey) Anderson and three grandchildren, Charles, Kelly and Jeffrey Carino. Three brothers, Jerry, Joe and Bert predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Resurrection Church. Interment was at Greenwood Union Cemetery
