Holmes Bomann was born in New York on 7/16/1930 to his parents Donald Bomann and Janet Bomann. Holmes alongside his parents and older brother Donald Bomann Jr. lived on 114 Hillside Road. His father Donald was head of the household and worked as a sales manager. Before the war Holmes graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in June of 1949. During his High School years Holmes was active in crew and sailing. Holmes went on to row JV crew at Brown University after graduating Philips Exeter. Holmes and his younger brother Donald Jr. sailed for the Junior American Yacht Club in Rye which later led the brothers to embark on a two month excursion traveling England, France and Switzerland by boat. Holmes would go on to enlist and serve in the US Marine Corp for two years as an intelligence administrator at the Marine Corps air station in Cherry Point North Carolina.
