MCKERNAN Frank (Francis G.) McKernan, age 78 of Fairfield, beloved husband of Ann Weiss McKernan, passed away, Thursday, May 6, 2010 at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Frank was raised in Rye, N.Y., son of the late Edward and Ann Roe McKernan, and has been a Fairfield resident 48 years. He was a graduate of Iona College, and was a staff sergeant with the Air Force, serving in the Korean War.
Frank was a director of materials management for the former St. Joseph's Medical Center, Stamford, past president of the Connecticut Hospital Purchasing Management Association. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, serving on the parish council, and as membership chairman and treasurer for the Home School Association.
In addition to his wife, Ann of 53 years, survivors include his devoted children, Michael F. McKernan and wife, Tracy of Trumbull, William E. McKernan and wife, Pamela of Monroe, and Julie A. Whitlock and husband, John of Fairfield; five cherished grandchildren, Cayla McKernan, Collin McKernan, Tommy Whitlock, Allison Whitlock, and Matthew McKernan; two brothers, Edward McKernan and wife, Regina of California, and John McKernan of Illionois; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Briotte. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 a.m. from the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
