Charles T. Egan was born on August 17, 1929 in New York. He lived at 1 Railroad Avenue with his mother and father, Winifred and Patrick, as well as his two older sisters, Anna and Frances, and two older brothers, William and Joseph. Charles' father, Patrick, was a gardener and his mother, Winifred, worked as a stewart. On June 25, 1944, a class of thirty-two boys and girls, which included Charles, graduated Resurrection School at four o'clock in the auditorium. After graduating from Resurrection he moved onto Rye High School and eventually graduated with the class of 1948. Charles, who went by Charlie in school, was part of the Glee and Leaders club, and played football, basketball, and baseball. Following his graduation, as the Korean War was taking place, Charles was enlisted into the U.S. army on May 18, 1951.
